Festivals, events and markets in and around Anglesea

The Great Ocean Road has many diverse events throughout the year and here are some centred around Anglesea and surrounding towns.

Surf Coast Century 2014

This is a 100kilometre run along the cliffs and beaches of the Great Ocean road. It is on in September every year and this year is on the 13th September starting at Anglesea Front Beach on the Great Ocean Road.

Wildflower Show

In September every year is the Anglesea and Airey’s Inlet Wildflower Show held at the Memorial Hall in McMillan Street Anglesea. Open between 10 am and 4 pm, the show is a spectacular display of local wildflower displays, local artwork and guided tours of the heathlands. Also check out the art and craft exhibitions, children’s activities, swap a weed for a native plant and much more.

Salomon Trail Running

Held on the 14th September 2014 is this great trail run accessible to all runners and walkers in this great scenic location. Choose from a short, medium or long race over the exhilarating trails in the bushland.

Drink Arts Food Torquay

Held over the 10th and 12th of October in Bell Street Torquay is a weekend celebrating art, music, local produce and local producers along the Great Ocean Road. Enjoy great food and coffee, wines, beers and lots of local entertainment.

Airey’s Inlet Open Mic Festival

The next festival is in March 2015 at 45 Great Ocean Road in Aireys Inlet. All types of music, from soloists to big bands can be heard over the weekend of the 13th to 15th March. This is a free event though door donations are welcome to ensure the festival continues.

Lorne Festival of Performing Arts

Held on the 29th to 30th August 2014 at various locations around Lorne is the 3rd Festival of performing arts that celebrates all the areas culture by the sea. There will be lots of stories, music, burlesque acts, comedies, poetry, music and dance, lots of workshops including for the kids. Enjoy the seaside and enjoy the relaxed lifestyle and watch some great acts over the weekend.

Lots of music including local and international artists and DJ’s for everyone to enjoy.

Rip Curl pro

Held at Bells Beach every year is this famous Australian surf competition attracting professional surfers from all over the world trying their hand at this competition. The world’s best male and female surfers and a wildcard as well as the best junior surfers arrive at Bells Beach for the 2nd ASP competition of the year. Check out what is happening in and around Torquay and local towns over the Easter weekend each year.

Markets

Point Lonsdale Market

Held on the second Saturday of each month and Easter Saturday and the first Saturday in December at the primary school in Bowen Road is this very popular market on the Bellarine Peninsula. Check out the local jams and produce, art and craft, clothes, artwork, plants and food and drink stalls. Look at over 150 stalls indoors and outdoors with lots to see for the whole family.

Geelong Bottle and Collectables

Located in Geelong Showgrounds at 79 Breakwater Road on the 24th and 25th October 2014. This event is held every two years and run by volunteers who are interested in glass and other collectables. You are able to buy, sell or swap from a variety of great stalls. All items on display are for sale.

Take 2 Geelong West Markets

Located at Geelong West Town Hall at 153 Pakington Street West Geelong is over 40 stalls of designer and vintage fashion from Australian and international designers. See Retro and Vintage fashion, accessories, jewellery and shoes and lots more for the whole family. Every entry gets a raffle ticket to share in the great collection of prizes available. Next market is the 31st August 2014.

Queenscliff Market

Held at Lower Princess Park in Hygeia Drive on the last Sunday of each month, except for June, July and August, is this great boutique market event. Wander through stalls of local fresh produce, food and drinks, arts and crafts, plants and flowers and many more items to look at.
